Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday, falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which is in late May or June on the Gregorian calendar. In 2022, Dragon Boat Festival falls on June 3th.
In Dragon Boat Festival, we usually eat traditional food called Zongzi, the pyramid-shaped steamed glutinous rice packages in bamboo or reed leaves. It’s a tasty rice dumplings with local variations in fillings have been a tradition of China's Dragon Boat Festival for centuries.
There is touching folk legend about heartwarming protection for poet Quyuan, hence Zongzi is not only made in glutinous rice but more instead by indefinite love and care.
In general, northern Chinese prefer sweet rice dumplings filled with red-bean paste or Chinese dates, while southerners like savory ones with fillings such as egg yolk, pork and mushroom.
